Iowa Select Farms was founded in 1992 by third-generation farmer and pork producer Jeff Hansen, President and CEO. Iowa Select Farms has grown to be Iowa's largest pork producer and ranks fourth in the United States. Based in Iowa Falls, Iowa Select's $30.4 million annual payroll supports the families and communities of over 900 employees in 43 Iowa counties. In order to attract quality employees and future managers, Iowa Select Farms has a well-rounded internship program to educate, employee and develop strong leaders for the swine industry. Iowa Select's internship program offers experience and education in each phase of swine production - farrowing, nursery, wean-to-finish and finishing.

To assist interns, Iowa Select Farms provides a hands-on learning experience with competitive wages and potential college credit. Students have the opportunity to participate in structured internship activities and work side by side with Iowa Select's employees to make the internship fun, educational and rewarding. Internship Opportunities

Join The Select Team! Iowa Select Farms, a leader in the pork production field, offers internship programs for those students looking for experience and development in pork production careers.  Our typical internships begin in late May and continue through mid August.  We will also offer spring and fall options for those students needing to complete a program in those seasons.

Pork Production Management

  • Observe and gain hands-on experience in swine production working with caretakers, farm technicians, department managers, supervisors, veterinarains and other management personnel in the following production areas:
    • Breeding/Gestation
    • Farrowing
    • Boar Studs
    • Nursery
    • Wean-to-Finish
  • Interns also have the opportunity to develop fundamental skills to be successful in many other areas of our business including:
    • Record Keeping, Artificial Insemination, Herd Health, Ventilation, Farrowing Procedures, Animal Condition Scoring, Animal Behavior
