Applicator TrainingAn important facet of Iowa Select Farms production system is economic fertilizer benefits for our grain producing partners throughout Iowa. To assure efficient and effective application, Iowa Select Farms hosts routine manure applicator educational sessions throughout our production territories. The objective of the training sessions is to advance Iowa Select's overall environmental mission. Iowa Select Farms is committed to ensuring that all manure applications from its farms are carried out in a manner that protects the environment while providing valuable nutrients to area farmers. In addition, Iowa law requires the training and certification of both commercial and confinement site manure applicators in Iowa. The sessions are designed to give an overview of the Iowa certification rules and current issues within the pork industry. Other topics include proper storage, handling, emergency plans, safety and record keeping of manure. Iowa Select's requirements and guidelines for manure application, neighbor relations and environmental protection above state law requirements are reviewed with the applicators by Iowa Select's nutrient management team. Applicators also have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with Iowa Select's staff as well as other applicators to discuss current issues and new technologies. The Iowa Select Farms' manure applicator training session is attended by state-certified commercial site applicators from across Iowa and is a key element of Iowa Select's mission to safeguard Iowa's surface water and ground water resources. |
