“The Power Snack coupons help ensure students have healthy food during weekends and breaks from school,” shared Cindy Devlaeminck, Principal at Lincoln Elementary School in Spencer Community Schools.
We know most students come to school expecting a meal that will sustain their energy throughout the school day, and we also recognize that may be the only meal some students receive during the day. Because of this, weekends and breaks from school can be very difficult. The Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation was honored to deliver 800 Power Snack coupons to Lincoln Elementary today to help combat this issue that many families face.
The Power Snack coupons contain $8 worth of deli ham and $3 worth of whole wheat bread. The coupons delivered to Lincoln Elementary are valued at $6,400 in deli ham and $2,400 in whole wheat bread. Although the cost of living and food is at an all-time high, we believe Iowans should still have access to healthy protein to put on their plates.
The deli ham and whole wheat bread is a great way for children to be given the nutrients needed to be successful in and outside of the classroom. No child deserves to have hunger as a barrier, and we will continue to do what it takes to help fight this in our Homegrown Iowa communities.
