Haul Out Hunger: Ackley Food Pantry

“It is very costly for our clients to purchase protein,” said Jan Johnson, a volunteer at the the Aplington-Parkersburg Food Pantry. “And this pork is not only nutritious, but it’s also delicious! So to say we’re grateful for this donation is an understatement.”

It seems like just yesterday our team was in Parkersburg for Operation Christmas Meal On-The-Go, but in fact that was 6 months and 90 degrees ago! We stopped through town again today to once again fill the AP Food Pantry’s freezer with fresh pork loins. This time, 144 of them!

“Our clients “shop” once a month and choose all of the items that their household needs,” explained Jan. “But I have a feeling every single one of them is going to want one of these loins. This donation is always such a blessing!”

In addition to Jan, the AP Food Pantry relies on 25-30 volunteers who help with setup, distribution, unloading of items, stocking shelves and assisting clients.

“Six to eight of those volunteers help in every aspect of the pantry,” explained Jan. “They are retired individuals who love to serve people, and I am so grateful for their help. I couldn’t do it without them.”

With the help of many of those volunteers, our Haul Out Hunger crew quickly unloaded 12 cases of pork loins in what seemed like the blink of an eye!

“This donation is a fun one for us,” continued Jan. “Anytime we can provide our clients with a quality product like this really helps feed their family.”

We're not quite done with today's donations yet! We've still got six stops and a trailer full of pork loins to go. Allison, we're coming for ya!
