Celebrating the Foundation: Operation Christmas Meal
posted on Monday, April 29, 2019
“I drove by Operation Christmas Meal and someone waved me in, handed me a pork loin and wished me a ‘Merry Christmas.’ I don’t think those kind people knew I didn’t have any food for that day, or for the week. I cried on my way home, thankful that an angel sent me through Afton.”
We believe everyone deserves a good meal, especially at Christmastime, which is why the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation hands out 17,000 free pork loins during 13 different Operation Christmas Meal events across Iowa.
Hundreds of Iowa Select Farms employees readily volunteer at their community’s giveaway, handing pork loins through car windows of families that need an extra hand during the holidays.
The spirit of giving is further ignited by encouraging those without need to pick up a pork loin and provide it to someone they know who is in need, such as a struggling single mother or an elderly, home-bound neighbor.
The Foundation increased its Operation Christmas Meal giving in 2018 by 55%—targeting the rural areas of Iowa Falls, Webster City, Clarion, Mount Ayr, Afton, Humeston, Hampton, Riceville, Osage, Lake City, Sac City, and Pocahontas.
