Cindy Named Select Care Award Winner

Congratulations to Cindy for being named our Select Care Excellence Award Winner!
For more than thirty years, Cindy and her husband Gary have dedicated their lives to helping others. From Lyle Area Cancer, Cub Scouts, 4-H and a church preservation project to the Lyle Food Shelf, Legion Club remodel, Lyle Independence celebration and Lyle Truck, Tractor & Semi pulls, they’ve made a tremendous positive impact on their community and the lives of others through volunteerism.
“I’ve always lived life by the motto it’s better to give than to receive,” Cindy cheerfully said. “I like to think that if I was in a position where I needed help, people would help me. It’s all apart of being human.”
For 41 years, Lyle Area Cancer has been raising money to be used for cancer research. Cindy and Gary have been volunteering with the organization for 31 years. In 2008, they hit a major milestone of raising $1 million for cancer reached, then $2 million in 2015 and most recently in 2020, Lyle Area Cancer hit the $3 million mark. The money raised ends up being used for cancer research at The Hormel Institute, University of Minnesota and the Mayo Clinic.
“Who doesn’t know a friend or family member that hasn’t been affected by cancer?” said Cindy. “It’s very rewarding to know that we’re making an impact on finding a cure. Someday there will be one. Until then, we continue the fight.”
From co-chairing and hosting events to organizing Harley Davidson raffles, clerking auctions and tournaments, Cindy and Gary have been involved in a variety of roles over the years. “There’s a lot of fun that’s had there,” she chuckled. “And of course, a lot of happy times, sad times, emotional times—but it’s always a good feeling knowing that you’re helping others.”
That helping others mentality continues over into Cindy’s work as the Iowa Select Farms’ warehouse manager in Osage. She recently celebrated her 20th work anniversary with the company.
“Cindy runs an incredibly efficient warehouse,” said finishing supervisor, Chawn. “And not only is she great at her job, but such a friendly person to work with. She always has our supplies ready so that we can do our jobs to the best of our ability. Outside of work, she is very involved in her community. You can tell that helping people is just what she does, whether at work or in her personal life. We are lucky to have a kind and sincere person like Cindy on our team.”
“Cindy is a solid rock on our supply chain team and we appreciate everything she does,” said Shawn, director of logistics. “Her hard work and extra effort are reflected with this awesome recognition.”
When we asked Cindy how it felt to receive the Select Care Excellence Award, she shared how surprised she was. “There are a lot of people in the company that are equally as deserving,” she said. “I couldn’t do what I do at work and also volunteering if I didn’t have the support and dedication of the team. There is no ‘I’ in team and there is no ‘I’ in company. Success comes when everyone works together.”
Thank you for all you do for our company and your community, Cindy and Gary. You are so incredibly deserving of this honor and we are proud to have you on our team.
