Congratulations to Hugo Alvarez Valdivia on your Iowa Select Farms Future Ag Leader Scholarship!
Hugo is a graduate of the Ames Community School District and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State University.
“I have always been very interested in hands-on projects from a very young age. My grandfather worked as a carpenter and as an industry laborer for years, and he had a workshop at home where he taught me how to work with wood. Those moments awoke my interest in building things and to learn how machines are utilized and operated in industrial work. One of my biggest personal passions is to learn new things--this is why I believe a STEM field is a perfect option for me to major in, Mechanical Engineering to be more precise.,” explained Hugo.
His future goal is to be able to apply all of his knowledge and experiences he is learning and provide solutions to the problems facing today’s society and industries.
Hugo’s parents are Jose Alvarez and Rocio Jimenez who have worked for Iowa Select for many years. They are from Ames, Iowa.
Hugo shared, “I think Iowa Select Farms is great because it's a large farming business that not only focuses in making money, they also care for the wellness of their workers and giving back to the big Iowa community that saw them grow. Iowa Select Farms also offers a lot of nice bonuses for their workers such as giving tickets for the Iowa State Fair.”
