The East Sac FFA made a huge impact on the lives of 24 local families by preparing Christmas meal kits to be distributed through their school’s food pantry and Backpack program.

East Sac FFA was one of 40 student-based organizations that applied for the Ignite the Spirit program offered by Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.

As part of the Ignite the Spirit program, the chapter received $250 for ingredients, totes, recipe booklets and two cases of pork loins. The students purchased groceries and even purchased seasoning and sides to fully complete the recipes in the booklets.

Assembly lines were set up in a classroom and the students stuffed the bags with pork loins, seasonings, potatoes, biscuits, cookie dough, canned vegetables and butter.
They also added their own fruit, nuts and cheese leftover from their fundraising fruit sale. The meals went to families enrolled in the school’s Backpack program and others who rely on the food pantry for household food needs.
