“There are so many amazing opportunities in agriculture to make a difference, all it takes is some hard work,” said Sawyer, a Future Ag Scholarship winner from Aplington.

Sawyer is the son of Shawn and Amy. He has a strong background in agriculture and has especially learned a lot from his dad, Shawn, who is a Breeding Department Head at Mott-GDU.

After growing up working on and around farms all his life, Sawyer plans to use his past experiences to become a mechanical engineer. He is currently attending ISU after receiving his associate degree from DMACC in 2020. As a future mechanical engineer, he hopes to design new agricultural equipment for tomorrow’s farmers.

A true engineer at heart, Sawyer’s favorite quote is from Thomas Edison who once said, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”

This quote helps him remind him that you must work hard to achieve success.  Between his passion for agriculture and the skills that he will acquire, Sawyer hopes to work hard to make the agricultural community a better place.

“Agriculture has been my inspiration for my future. It has shown me to care about where our food comes from, and the importance of having responsible food sources,” said Sawyer.

Good luck this year and we can’t wait to see what you can bring to the agricultural field!
