Grand-Opening of Humeston Sow Farm
posted on Friday, March 10, 2017
Today is a very exciting day for Iowa Select Farms! Located near Humeston, Iowa, we’re finally unveiling our brand new, positively-filtered, 6,200 head sow farm. In addition to producing 175,000 weaned pigs annually, this farm will serve as a tour farm to provide guests a unique experience inside a commercial sow farm.
To celebrate the grand-opening of this innovative farm, we’re hosting an open house for local community members, industry supporters, employees, suppliers, ed...ucators and FFA groups.
During the tour, guests are led through the farm by an Iowa Select Farms employee to get a glimpse into the farrowing rooms, breeding department with open pen gestation and even get to take a peek into one of our filter banks to learn about positive pressure filtration.
From the group that designed this unique farm and the construction team that brought it to life, to the employees who have been working tirelessly for months on end in preparation of bringing animals in next week, this farm has definitely been a labor of love (and a lot of hard work!) and we couldn’t be more excited that it’s finally complete!
