Greene County FFA Ignites the Spirit

posted on Thursday, December 30, 2021

Even in the face of storms and severe weather, the Greene County FFA Chapter made a huge impact on the lives of almost 400 people in need. This inspiring mission was accomplished with the help of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation’s Ignite the Spirit program that’s offered alongside Operation Christmas Meal to fight food insecurity in Iowa.

The FFA members partnered with Green County’s Adopt-A-Family program to pack meals complete with an Iowa Select Farms pork loin and other no non-perishable food items. Members contributed the food for the meals and then assembled them along with other volunteers from the program.

“Earlier in the week our community had a few tornados go through and power was just restored the night before the packaging. A few FFA members were able to come despite the school cancelation and storm to assist Adopt-A-Family with the program,” said Greene County FFA Advisor, Raelyn Harris. “Being able to provide these meals is incredible as many Greene County families were without power for a few days as well as some losing homes, buildings, and belongings. Thank you to Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation for this much needed contribution towards Adopt-a-Family and our community.”

The Green County FFA Chapter is one of almost 50 student-based organizations that applied for the Ignite the Spirit program offered by Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.

Way to go FFA members!
