Kudos to GHV FFA - Iowa River in Hancock County for organizing a big donation of Christmas meals to Garner Iowa United Methodist Church Gods Pantry.

Iowa River FFA was one of 40 student-based organizations that applied for the Ignite the Spirit program offered by Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.

As part of the Ignite the Spirit program, GHV Iowa River FFA received $250 for ingredients, totes, recipe booklets and two cases of pork loins.

These officers even got creative by taking the loins to their local butcher to slice in half so their efforts could stretch across more families served by the pantry. Pork loins, potatoes and recipe books were gathered, assembled and delivered to the pantry to get to families in time for the holidays.

Ignite the Spirit is an extension of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation’s Operation Christmas Meal program and is aimed at increasing awareness of hunger locally and igniting the spirit of service by giving local student groups the tools—pork!—to help even more families during the holiday season.

This year, nearly 40 FFA, 4-H and school-based organizations received two cases of pork loins and $250 to prepare a meal for families in need or organize food baskets to distribute.

Great job, Iowa River FFA! #IgniteTheSpirit
