Jamie Celebrate 15 Years at Iowa Select Farms

“The swine industry is more than just a job for me, it’s a passion and a lifestyle,” said Jamie, who is celebrating 15 years with Iowa Select Farms.
As a fourth generation Iowa farmer, it was no surprise that Jamie would end up working with pigs. Growing up, her parents had four finishing units and 150 sows. When it came time to choose a career, Iowa Select Farms was the right fit.
Starting out at the Hefner boar stud working in collection, Jamie worked alongside three team members. After gaining experience working with boars, she continued and is now the manager of the Gene Transfer Center (GTC) isolation units.
Jamie works at both the Macksburg and Arispie farms, where she solely takes responsibility for the new boars. Over a seven-week period, she is constantly evaluating the animals, documenting health and structure while ensuring adherence to the strictest biosecurity measures. Ensuring the health of the boars is ground zero for healthy pigs throughout the entire company.
“I love the agriculture industry in general, but what I love about this job is that it allowed me to expand my knowledge of animal health and care, grow as an employee and individual and has given me a group of people that are my family away from home.”
Outside of the farm, Jamie spends time with her tight-knit family. She is the mother of three, which takes her on many adventures, especially outdoors. Gardening, hiking, fishing and going to the beach are just a few that keep them busy. Their family resolution for the year was to start camping, and they are looking forward to that season starting soon.
“This job gives me the opportunity to do two things I love—working with pigs and being a mom,” said Jamie. “I get to pick my kids up from school every day. The flexibility is amazing.”
Jamie is excited about her future with Iowa Select Farms and plans on many more years to come.
“I have seen such positive growth within this company,” said Jamie. “Iowa Select Farms is a leader in the industry for biosecurity and animal well-being and I am proud to be a part of that.”
Congratulations on 15 years of working at Iowa Select Farms, Jamie! We are so lucky to have you.
