Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to JEWELL we go!

It was just a few months ago that our team was filling every nook and cranny inside Hector’s Cupboard, the food pantry at South Hamilton Schools, with pork loins. Today, we loaded them up with deli ham and whole bread Power Snack coupons + 200 Pork Sticks.

“Ham sandwiches are easy and delicious to make,” said counselor Lindsay Gelder. “They’re an option that we don’t typically have in our food pantry, but are the perfect, healthy snack or meal for kids.”

Power Snack is a program of Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation that provides the food resources for kids in-need to make their own protein-packed “Power Snacks” at home. The energy from the whole wheat bread + protein from the deli ham is a winning combination—healthy, filling and delicious!

This was our first stop of eleven today and South Hamilton is one of three districts in Hamilton County that will be receiving Power Snack. Lindsay says the coupons will be kept in the school’s food pantry, handed out at lunch and prior to extended holiday breaks and weekends when kids go without free and reduced meal programs at school.

In total, South Hamilton Community Schools received 800 Power Snack coupon booklets + 200 Pork Sticks—enough resources for students to make 9,600 meals.
