At the Lamoni Food Pantry we met up with Gwen Simpson, who for years has coordinated the small but mighty food pantry at the United Methodist Church. She and her outstanding volunteers filled their fridge with pork loins from the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation. “We serve 75 families a month, and this is a huge help,” said Gwen. “Our people absolutely love it.”
“The families we serve cannot afford meat, and this is such a huge portion,” said Gwen. “We know the challenges, studies show families choose the cheapest food to buy and it doesn’t always have the nutrition they need, which is why donations such as these are so critical to helping families.”
Gwen goes on to explain that most of their families only have tiny freezers, so the five-pound loins are a perfect fit, yet are able to provide many meals. “A lot of families don’t get to have pork loins or large pieces of meat, so the recipe booklets with handling and storage times are a huge help for the people who don’t cook a lot.” #billionpounds
