Last Stop for Day Two in Belmond

posted on Wednesday, October 27, 2021

Closing out our second day of deliveries for our 2021 Power Snack is Belmond-Klemme Community School District in Belmond.

With 1 in 8 Iowa children facing food insecurity, Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation are fighting back with ham sandwiches, pork sticks and educational resources for teachers. These nutritious, protein-packed goodies are through the Foundation’s Power Snack™ program, which has been helping food-insecure Iowa children for nine years.

Four times throughout the school year, 500 students at Belmond-Klemme will receive a Power Snack coupon booklet. Each booklet contains a $5 coupon for deli ham and $3 coupon for a loaf of whole wheat bread. Combining the energy and carbohydrates of whole wheat bread with the protein of ham means the children will have made themselves a real Power Snack.

This year, 76,800 Power Snack coupons and 20,000 Pork Sticks will be distributed at 89 schools across Iowa, Belmond-Klemme being just one district of many.

That is the end of our travels for today but stay tuned as next week we are hitting the road all week long.
