Laurens-Marathon

Power Snack has finally made it to the Laurens-Marathon School District! This year, 110 students at the elementary school will receive Power Snack coupons and Pork Sticks.

A program of Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, Power Snack provides at-risk students in Iowa with the food ingredients to make their own nutritious “Power Snacks”—deli ham and whole wheat bread sandwiches—at home.

The coupons are located on the back of the Protein Power! recipe booklets and can be redeemed at any local grocery store. They are most commonly distributed prior to extended holiday breaks when students no longer have access to critical breakfast, lunch and snack programs at school. Each qualifying student will receive a $5 coupon for deli ham and $3 coupon for a loaf of whole wheat or whole grain bread—enough resources to make twelve delicious (and nutritious, but don’t tell the kids that!) ham sandwiches at home.

Since 2015, 2,212 children in Pocahontas and Palo Alto counties have received Power Snack. A donation valued at $70,784, but more importantly—106,176 meals for local children in-need.

Students at Laurens-Marathon Elementary will also receive Pork Sticks, a protein-packed snack alternative that helps kick hunger to the curb. When students’ bellies are full, they can focus on learning!
