Light Company Assembles 12,000 Pork Care Packages

We’d like to highlight the first of two very special service-oriented groups who helped us assemble 12,000 Pork Care Packages in just a few short days. A huge "thank you!" to Light Company, a college ministry of New Heights Church in Indianola.

All students at Simpson College, these young adults eagerly said yes to helping Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation with the annual Pork Care Package “stuffing” event, where the packages are assembled, counted, boxed and prepared to be delivered out to leaders of the Iowa National Guard, Iowa Air National Guard, US Army Reserves, US Navy Reserves, US Marine Corps Reserves and the Iowa National Guard’s Survivor Outreach Services.

These busy students also give their time and energy to making an impact in the lives of people who are overlooked, or may not be able to help themselves, like their recent effort to help with the YMCA Supportive Housing Unit in downtown Des Moines.

We had a great couple of evenings together,” said Katie Eichleberger, a Light Company intern and recent graduate of Simpson College. “We got into a system and it ended up being a lot of fun. To be a part of this effort to show gratitude to military families meant a lot to all of us. They do so much for our country and we are grateful we had the opportunity to help.”
