“Sioux Central Childcare was so excited to learn the tremendous donation of toys that Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation choose to give to us,” said April. “The kids are absolutely thrilled to have new toys to play with and such a great variety of learning, fun and excitement that these toys will bring. People sometimes do not realize how fast we go through toys. A donation like this really goes a long way.”

Up on a hill in the town of Sioux Rapids, the little Sioux Central Childcare facility is a staple of the community, and that is evident in the families that care so much about it.

“Sioux Central Childcare is a really safe and fun environment,” said Trent, a contract grower of Iowa Select Farms. “As a small community, it's important to have a day care like this that can watch children when parents have to travel to other towns for work. It really caters to a lot of the surrounding communities that do not offer any sort of day care, but have companies, farms and places where parents work. It’s not just the service they provide, but the people who run and work there. They really are wonderful and caring providers. The day care has become an important part of my family and inspired my daughter to pursue early education in college.”

The larger day care centers in our rural communities tend to draw families from all around the area. Some families spent substantial portions of their day getting to and from day care because the quality of the facility or the lack of day care close by.

“We are thankful for the opportunity to uplift every day care and day care provider as we travel from county to county learning more and more about our Homegrown Iowa community day cares,” said Ali Kraber, a representative of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation. “We know so many of these day cares have weather challenges, employee shortages and so many other inevitable matters out of their control, and they still show up and do an amazing job. We just hope they know the care and love we have for them.”
