Janet
Janet had the biggest smile on her face as she talked about the kids she cares for. She loves and cares and teaches and comforts all the kids that walk through her door as if they were her own. As we unpacked the toys, Janet held close in her arms a little one who tends to be shy around people she does not know.

Janet has dedicated vast portions of her beautiful farmhouse to make them fun and creative for kids. As we hung out and played with the kids with all the new toys, Janet hung up one of the interactive creative toys provided for the kids in the Little Farmer Toy Box.

“With the gift of the toy box, we will be making memories for years to come,” said Janet. “Agriculture is in our backyard, so having toys like this is just so special. I look forward to all the laughs and memories we will make together, sharing something so vital to our way of life.”

Within the Iowa Select Farms feed department, Mickey shared just how important Janet is to her family.

“Janet is always super accommodating to help with the flexibility needed in taking care of animals. She is extremely supportive of the agricultural lifestyle. Her husband is a farmer himself, two of her child work for the local feed mill, and another does contract work for ISF. Some say it takes a village to raise kids, and with Janet, we have the best village possible.”

Mickey went on to say it’s more than caring for kids; she is always thinking of us.left

“Even when anyone in the family is sick, she is checking in on us. She knows our routines, so if we are late, she checks in to make sure we're ok. She is a part of our family, and we are so lucky to have her.”

People like Janet are so crucial to our work in agriculture. She helps inspire and comforts the kids within her care, teaches and encourages them, and is an essential part of the families she helps.

“Without people like Janet, our rural communities would not be the same,” said Ali Kraber, a representative of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation. “The time, commitment and flexibility provided by our rural day care providers really ensure that parents have the potential to work, rural employers opportunity to flourish and farmers the ability to feed the world.”
