We’re excited to introduce the newest Little Free Pantry, located in Rockwell City, Iowa at the Rockwell City Church of Christ. Scroll through to see pictures from the install.
A program of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation and Iowa Select Farms, the Little Free Pantry serves as an emergency resource for children and families in-need.
Local employees Jeff, Dan and Maria will help monitor and keep the pantry stocked with non-perishable foods, quick and easy snacks and ready-to-eat meals. A huge shoutout also goes out to maintenance technicians, Jake and Chase, for helping install the pantry.
“The Foundation is always looking for ways to give back to our community and help families in-need,” said Jeff, Rockwell City native and Iowa Select Farms Finishing Supervisor who has also volunteered at Haul Out Hunger and Operation Christmas Meal pork giveaways. “This pantry is a really cool because you can tell it’s unique to our town. It shows nearly every landmark and point of pride.”
This is the fifth Little Free Pantry installed in an Iowa Select Farms Homegrown Iowa community. Other locations include Riceville, Afton and Webster City. Each pantry is hand-painted by The Freedom Rock Artist, Ray “Bubba” Sorenson.
Sow Supervisor, Dan Sander, is also excited to help keep the pantry stocked throughout the year. “As a father, I worry about the kids in our community who don’t have access to food in the summer months,” he said. “I think this is a great addition to the town and I’m proud that I can help make it a reality for the community. I can already imagine the smiles this is going to put on kids’ faces.”
The Deb and Jeff Hansen Little Free Pantry provides 24/7 access for families facing short-term, emergency situations. These pantries are designed to supplement existing hunger relief efforts by offering emergency resources to families who do not have the ability to buy food or have limited access to pantries or community shelters.
Children’s necessities not covered by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Women, Infant and Children (WIC) or other governmental support programs like bottles, diapers and hygiene products will also be included in support of another Foundation program, Henry’s Heroes.
