Loveable Louie Lionheart Brings Courage and Bravery to Special Children

“A parent’s world is turned upside down when they learn their child has cancer,” said Melissa Beaman, Children's Cancer Connection Program Director. “We’ve learned, after working so closely with families, that they need something to hold onto, whether it be the information in the My Journey Book™ or how to connect with other families to gain support and encouragement. We think Louie will provide a sense of comfort when the child needs it most.”

Which is why children diagnosed with cancer now have a loveable, huggable friend by their side, thanks to the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation and Iowa Select Farms. Louie Lionheart ™ has been introduced to the Foundation-funded My Journey Series™— a Children’s Cancer Connection program that provides resources and support to Iowa families affected by childhood cancer.

The My Journey Series—which includes the My Journey Book, Louie Lionheart and Beads4Bravery— is available to patients and families at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines and the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City. The Courage Store is also available at Blank Children's Hospital.

Currently 590 Iowa families participate in the My Journey Series, with 82 families added in 2018. The My Journey Series is provided to families at no cost thanks to the generosity of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.

The Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation’s support of the My Journey Series is part of its ongoing commitment to making life easier for families battling childhood cancer.

In addition to funding the My Journey Series, the Foundation also generously supports the Hansen Home for Hope, Blank Children’s Hospital’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center and numerous other projects in partnership with Children’s Cancer Connection. Welcome aboard, Louie!
