Matt Celebrates 25 Years with Iowa Select Farms

“Every day that I have worked this job presents a new challenge that I’m excited to tackle,” said Matt, a maintenance technician for Iowa Select Farms.
Matt is celebrating a milestone this year as it has been 25 years since he first started working for Iowa Select Farms!
Beginning his career as an assistant manager at Hines, a finisher in Jewell, Matt was hooked with the everchanging daily tasks of the swine industry. After two years of learning the practices of pig care, Matt moved into a manager role, taking care of three Greenfield finishers just north of Jewell. After all those years in different buildings, Matt knew the ins and outs of different buildings and technology. It was a great fit when he moved into the maintenance department where he has been for the last 13 years.
Working primarily in eastern Iowa, Matt shares his years of experience by training new maintenance technicians. Matt’s servant leadership attitude goes beyond just training, as he continues to help new hires and teammates resolve any problems they may face. “I get calls day and night asking for my advice and I am always happy to give it to them,” said Matt. “It feels good to be able to help and teach people.”
With Matt’s long history, he brings a diversified knowledge of pig and people care to the table. He has seen a large development in himself over the last 25 years with his diversified experiences at Iowa Select Farms, as well as in his ability to work with and help people.
Another change he has noticed is in the technology advancements that Iowa Select Farms has kept up with. “When I first started working here, we did not even have computers,” chuckles Matt. “We would use fax machines for feed and supply orders. It’s amazing how things have evolved.”
Matt not only loves his job, but he enjoys the additional perks that are attached. “My wife and I have four kids and we have always enjoyed the Iowa Select Farms family day at the Iowa State Fair,” he said. “We are so excited to be able to go back to the fair in August.”
