As National Ag Week closes, we hope always to save a little time in our day to celebrate farming and food. In that spirit, meet Eleanor.
Here at Iowa Select Farms, she helps all of us celebrate our essential role in agriculture. She runs awards programs, writes stories, takes photos and champions all of the efforts of our tremendous workforce with joy, kindness and creativity.
“I love farming because of the way it makes the world go round," said Eleanor. "Everything we use in our lives begins with agriculture—from the clothes on our backs to the food on our tables. It all started with a person passionate about helping others.”
Though Eleanor grew up with little ag background, she says she’s always felt welcomed and embraced by the ag community. “Farmers are the most selfless people who work every day with little recognition. I learn something new about farming and agriculture every day, and I couldn’t be more thankful to be surrounded by some of the most knowledgeable people in the industry.”
And pig farming? She loves that it’s the full circle. “We are so lucky to live in Iowa, where our soil produces an abundance of corn and soybeans that feed our pigs, and then our pigs feed the soil through manure application. It’s the greatest use of our natural resources and a sustainable way to produce a safe, nutritious and healthy protein. Plus, I think pigs are the funniest animals. They have such big personalities.” #WomenInAg
