“We feel blessed to have been a part of this wonderful project,” said Lisa Hurd, Nemaha 4H Club
organizer. Nemaha 4-H was one of 40 student-based organizations that applied for the Ignite the Spirit program offered by Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.

This amazing 4-H club took on not one but two projects, helping families within their school system and routing kits to their local food pantry. The club members did all of the shopping with the $250 from the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, then used matching funds from their club to offer more food.

Fourteen meals were organized by the club members and sent home to families through their local school. The other ten meals were packed up and donated to their local food pantry.
Extra bonus: when they delivered the meal kits they got a tour.

Ignite the Spirit is an extension of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation’s Operation Christmas Meal program and is aimed at increasing awareness of hunger locally and igniting the spirit of service by giving local student groups the tools—pork!—to help even more families during the holiday season.

Way to go, Nemaha 4-Her's!
