New Opportunities Food Pantry-Carroll

"I'm a mother to two young kids myself so I understand how important it is to provide nutritious, wholesome meals for families in need, especially children," said Albina Tigges, director of New Opportunities Family Development Center in Carroll. "We're here to give back to the community and help families in need. Everyone goes through difficult times so whether it's putting food on their table or paying a utility bill in the winter, we're here to help get them back on their feet."

With locations in Audubon, Calhoun, Carroll, Dallas, Greene, Guthrie and Sac County, Family Development Centers provide a variety of services to income eligible individuals through New Opportunities.

"We have this food pantry which is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM," explained Albina. "Right now we serve in upwards of 116 families per month, or 280 individuals. We receive donations frequently to better serve our families, but never meat. It's very, very hard to come by and also very expensive, so this donation is going to help us in the biggest way."

In addition to keeping well-stocked food pantries with a variety of items, including meat and fresh produce, New Opportunities offers a variety of other programs that benefit local communities including a head start program and collecting school supplies for children, putting together food baskets at Thanksgiving time, organizing a Toys for Tots drive and LIHEAP, an energy assistance program for the difficult winter months.

Thanks to Albina and volunteers Susanne and Raymond for helping our crew unload 1,200 pounds of pork for individuals and families in Carroll county, but more importantly for the strides you're making against food insecurity in your community! #HaulOutHunger #BillionPlus
