Operation Christmas Meal in Afton

"It feels good to give back to people who are less fortunate and helps get all of us in the Christmas spirit," said Bert Becker, manager of Sow 29 near Thayer.
Bert was on "Team Afton" on Monday, December 3, passing out free pork loins for families in need during Operation Christmas Meal. Over the noon hour, the team gave away free loins at the Union County Fairgrounds to help provide a holiday meal to members of the community.
"I live in Creston, and like that we are giving back to the communities were we live, and where our farms are located," said T'Lee Gerard, DVM and veterinarian for Iowa Select Farms. "It feels good to be a part of this."
Julie Crouch, a longtime employee of Iowa Select Farms lives in Afton. "We live here, and we know there is a need," she says. "Efforts like this really help, and feels good to give it away so others can have a better holiday." HomegrownIowa
P.S.--Bert is a longtime employee and manager at Iowa Select Farms. Today we asked her to look back at her career to see if she could recall how many managers and department heads she developed on her farm. The answer is ten!
