“We offer a morning meal and an evening meal, every day for 2,000 homeless adults a year,” said Melissa Gradischnig with Central Iowa Shelter and Services. “Having a hot meal can make all the difference in how a person approaches the day, and we’re here to help lift them up to work towards self-sufficiency.”

The Operation Christmas Meal delivery team of Elves Jen and Jenn delivered 12 cases to the shelter this morning, one of 12 stops the team will make today.

“We couldn’t operate without the support of the community, and donations like these keep us going so we can provide not only food but hope for those we serve,” said Melissa.

CISS—Iowa’s largest homeless shelter--is an emergency shelter with 150 beds, 19 transitional housing rooms for Veterans and 38 Project Based Section 8 Voucher efficiency apartments.

The shelter also operates an on-site health clinic, food pantry, clothing closet and classroom.
