Even though we may not realize it at times, hunger and food insecurity hits very close to home. The Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation recognizes the need for Iowans to have access to nutritious protein, and that is why we are honored to bring our Power Snack program to our rural communities.

The Power Snack booklets contain coupons for $8 worth of deli ham and $3 for a loaf of whole wheat bread. They also contain recipes that provide ideas outside of a ham sandwich. These recipes are healthy, delicious and require minimal ingredients – the perfect experiment for school-age children.

Mormon Trail Community School District received 400 Power Snack coupons today – valued at $3,200 worth of deli ham and $1,200 worth of whole wheat bread. This will reach many students and families in this rural community, and it will also be a great way for students to receive a healthy meal as we reach our first extended break of the school year.
