Eleanor with Nurse Kari McCracken“The PowerSnack program is a great resource, and any help providing extra food for our families is greatly appreciated,” said Kari McCracken, School Nurse at Alden Elementary School.

Alden Elementary received 400 PowerSnack coupons today, all containing $8 for a pound of deli ham and $3 for a loaf of whole wheat bread. In total, these coupons are valued at $4,400. The Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation is honored to provide the PowerSnack coupons to students and families in need in the Alden community.

We know trips to the grocery store are becoming more and more difficult, sometimes leaving unhealthy options as the only way to fill the cart. As pork producers, we are proud of the nutrients that ham provides, and that is why we believe that Iowans deserve access to this quality protein – no matter what.

Many students will now have a way to provide a snack or meal for themselves during their upcoming extended Thanksgiving break from school, and we hope this resources extends through the remainder of the school year.
