Power Snack 2022 Travels to Storm Lake Middle School

“Families have benefitted from the PowerSnack program in the past by being able to provide a healthy meal for their families,” said Griselda Vazquez, Facilitator of Family and Student Services at Storm Lake Middle School.

The Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation has been bringing the PowerSnack coupon to schools in our Homegrown Iowa communities for ten years, and it is a program we know makes a difference in the lives of many students and families.

Storm Lake Middle School received 2,500 PowerSnack coupons today, and the coupons contain $8 for deli ham and $3 for whole wheat bread. Together, these coupons are valued at $27,500. In a time when grocery budgets are become more and more tight, we hope these coupons allow students and families the opportunity to purchase a healthy and nutrient-dense protein option at the store.

Ham is a versatile and nutritious protein option that can be utilized at any meal. Not only do we love it because of the health benefits, but because it is delicious in a large number of meals. The PowerSnack coupon booklets also contain recipe ideas that adolescents can prepare on their own and highlight various ways to use the ham outside of a sandwich.
