Power Snack Stops at Three Schools in Spencer

"Each time we have received Power Snacks, our students and parents are very appreciative of the coupons for meat and bread," said Angie Ward, Counselor at Spencer Middle School. "The program helps to address food insecurities in our rural community."

Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation stopped in Spencer, Iowa just now to deliver 1,900 Power Snack coupon packs for students to redeem at grocery and convenience stores for $5 off fresh deli meat and $3 off a loaf of whole wheat bread.

"There are days when students come to school in tears because they are so hungry," said Hayley English, Secretary at Fairview Park Elementary. "It's the sad reality and we cannot express how much these coupons mean to us."

Visiting with the Tigers of Spencer High School, Spencer Middle School, Fairview Park Elementary, and Lincoln Elementary was a wonderful adventure.

“We are eager to be back on the road visiting schools for this year’s Power Snack™ and are dedicated to continue the fight against childhood hunger in Iowa,” said Eleanor Korum, Communications Specialist at Iowa Select Farms. “Teachers simply submit to us the number of students that are considered at-risk for food insecurity, which can really vary by community. Sometimes it is 20 percent of total school enrollment, other times it’s as high as 80 percent. We repeatedly hear feedback from teachers and nurses that our program makes a positive impact on the lives of these children and their families.”

Keep following along on our journey to end childhood hunger in Iowa.
