Riverside United Methodist Church Food Pantry-Fort Dodge
posted on Wednesday, August 2, 2017
After spending most of our morning in Fort Dodge, we finished off our deliveries at Webster County Case Management and Riverside United Methodist Church, delivering more than 400 pounds of fresh pork in total.
"This is incredible and we look forward to it every year,” said Brittany Baker, a case manager at Webster County Case Management. Case mangers like Brittany serve more than 300 families in the Fort Dodge area and their goal is to help people live more productive lives. “Rather than just giving them a handout, we try to give these families the tools that will help them be self-sufficient,” explained Brittany. “In this case fresh pork and a recipe booklet to accompany it is just what they need to make their own, delicious home-cooked meal."
After dropping off 36 pork loins with Brittany and her staff, it was off to visit with Joan Lara of the Riverside United Methodist Church. “This is the fourth year that our food pantry has been up and running and the fourth year Iowa Select has delivered fresh pork loins to us," said Joan. "We’ve relied tremendously on your support. The church and the families that we serve are always so excited when your semi rolls into town."
In addition to keeping a pantry well-stocked for the community, Riverside UMC serves a home-cooked meal twice a month for over 40 low income or food insecure Fort Dodge community members. Joan and eight other volunteers even make home deliveries to those who aren't able to attend due to limited transportation.
"This pork is going to be perfect paired with some mashed potatoes and gravy,” continued Joan. “Our plan is to have our church members join the low-income families for one big, delicious meal all together. I think it will be wonderful.”
We couldn’t agree more, Joan! Thanks for all of the work that you and Riverside UMC are doing to support low-income families in Ft. Dodge!#HaulOutHunger #BillionPlus
