Salvador Receives Iowa Select Farms Ag Leader Scholarship

Congratulation to Salvador on his Iowa Select Farms Ag Leader Scholarship!

“You can’t look back; you must keep looking forward”. This motto has served Salvador well throughout his life. The challenges that he has faced, overcome, and become successful would have stopped many people in pursuing their dreams. Not Salvador. He has continued to work hard, go to college, and earn good grades. He has hopes of working at an agricultural company that utilizes his experiences, his degree, and the knowledge that he has gained working on a swine farm. 

Salvador is the son of Rosalba, who works in our farrowing department. He became the “man of the house” at a young age and had to get a job at 13 to help support the family. He endured this challenge and found that he did well academically and athletically.  His wrestling coach saw his determination and work ethic. The coach entrusted Salvador with farm responsibilities and eventually a promotion to manger.

Salvador recognizes that agriculture gave him a “purpose in life”. His determination and passion will be assets that he can utilize throughout his life.

As the farrowing department head, Ashley and her team of Selene, Vivian, Dolly, David, Zory, Hugo, Alonzo and Yulissa—to name a few—will receive the gestating sows within a day or two of farrowing, make them comfortable, monitor health and feed intake, and then assist with birthing.
