Serving the Community with Ignite the Spirit

Hats off to the Nemaha 4-H Club for their tremendous service to the community!

This 4-H club was one of almost 50 student-based organizations that participated in the Ignite the Spirit program offered by Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.

These students worked together to package and donate 24 meal boxes to the Early Food Pantry. The boxes impacted 400 people and included a pork loin, sides and a special treat bag with candies, oranges and apples.

“We had already planned on coordinating with the food pantry to organize this project, but this opportunity from Operation Christmas Meal makes it even sweeter and triples the amount of help we are able to give,” explained one 4-H member. “Thank you, Hansen family and Iowa Select Farms for making this a possibility and helping us ignite the spirit in our community.”

Ignite the Spirit is an extension of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation’s Operation Christmas Meal program and is aimed at increasing awareness of hunger locally and igniting the spirit of service by giving local student groups the tools—pork!—to help even more families during the holiday season.

As part of the program, FFA chapters and 4-H clubs also receive event kits with aprons along with a check for $250 to purchase additional food for the meal.

Way to go, Nemaha 4-H Club!
