South Hamilton FFA Participates in Ignite the Spirit

posted on Thursday, December 30, 2021

We're so proud of South Hamilton FFA for making a big difference in the lives of 24 local families.

The FFA members participated in the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation's Ignite the Spirit Program, an extension of Operation Christmas Meal. Ignite the Spirit offers student FFA and 4-H organizations two cases of pork loins and a $250 check to develop a project aimed at alleviating hunger, locally.

The students created 24 take-home holiday meals for members of their community using Iowa Select Farms pork loins along with all the ingredients for side dishes and a dessert as a project for their December FFA Meeting. They distributed some of the meals through their school food pantry called “Hector’s Cupboard” and partnered with the South Hamilton Elementary Backpack Buddy program to send the other meals home with students.

“Thank you, Iowa Select Farms for allowing us to partner with you for this awesome community service activity. In total, we had over 40 South Hamilton FFA members participate in the receiving, packaging and delivery of these meals. It was rewarding for them to give back to their community,” said chapter advisor, Carlton Ness.

Keep up the great teamwork and servant leadership South Hamilton FFA!
