Spreading Holiday Cheer with Southwest Valley FFA

posted on Tuesday, December 28, 2021

Hats off to the Southwest Valley FFA Chapter for their tremendous service to the community!

Southwest Valley FFA was one of almost 50 student-based organizations that participated in the Ignite the Spirit program offered by Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.

These FFA members partnered with MATURA of Adams County to provide meal boxes to 24 families for the holiday season. They used the funds provided by the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation to purchase sides and desserts that were paired with the provided loins. The students participated in this project through meal planning, shopping for ingredients, creating holiday cards for the families, and delivering the boxes to the MATURA distribution center in Corning.

Ignite the Spirit is an extension of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation’s Operation Christmas Meal program and is aimed at increasing awareness of hunger locally and igniting the spirit of service by giving local student groups the tools—pork!—to help even more families during the holiday season.

As part of the program, FFA chapters and 4-H clubs also receive event kits with aprons along with a check for $250 to purchase additional food for the meal.

Way to go, Southwest Valley FFA!
