“I really appreciated that Iowa Select offered me the opportunity to gain experience directly in my field of interest and was willing to train me in programs and methodology while other employers simply expect to have years of experience with beforehand,” said Elijah, this summer’s nutrient management intern.

Originally from Columbus Junction, Iowa, Elijah is currently a student at Iowa State University where he is double majoring in environmental science and English literature. A career in environmental science is in his future and his internship with Iowa Select is helping him gain the skills he’ll need down the road.

“My primary duty throughout the summer is to travel to the various company owned/operated sites and inspect them for any environmental or biosecurity concerns. Additionally, I perform map updates of fields that Iowa Select manure is applied to in order to accurately gauge how much and often it may be applied,” he explained. “I also perform annual manure management plan updates, which involves processing legal documents for the benefit of the company and the DNR.

Elijah’s manager, Keith, can attest to how hard he works.

“He has fit in as part of our team very well,” Keith said. “He works hard and does what is needed to get the job done. His work is top notch, and everyone enjoys having him on our team.”

Keep doing great things and making our company a better place, Elijah!
