Our next intern profile features Elizabeth, a sow production intern from Sumner, Iowa. Elizabeth will be a junior at Hawkeye Community College in the fall where she studies animal science and agriculture business management. She has been able to apply her studies to real-world experiences during her internship with Iowa Select Farms.

“I have a lot of responsibilities includes, choring farrowing rooms, processing piglets, washing farrowing rooms, writing up weans, making farrowing cards, heat checking, moving sows into farrowing rooms, helping load wean pigs in the chute and more,” she explained.

Elizabeth can attest that this internship has impacted her future and helped solidify her goal to pursue a career with animals. However, her favorite part of her internship has been the relationships she developed with her on-farm co-workers.

“My favorite part has been the people I work with. We have really become a family,” she said.
Her teammates couldn’t agree more, especially her manager Rachael.

“Elizabeth has been a fun addition to our crew. Although she is more of a reserved person, I have watched her over the past few months come out of her shell and gain more confidence with everyday life at the farm,” said Rachael. “She is never hesitant to reach out for help or any questions and has done a great job in just a few short months with us. All of us wish her luck in her future endeavors and she can always come back and visit anytime!”

We’re wishing you the best in your future, Elizabeth. Keep up the great work!
