“This experience has helped me expand my knowledge in the swine industry, and I hope to use all the information I’ve learned in school and my future career,” said Lexi, a sow production intern from Viroqua, Wisconsin.

In the fall, Lexi will be a junior at Iowa State University where she is majoring in animal science. Upon graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in the swine industry. Her time at Iowa Select has helped her learn valuable skills and competencies essential to everyday operations on a sow farm like choring, vaccinating, breeding, heat checking and weaning pigs.

Her experiences at Iowa Select this summer have only increased her interest in the industry and her appreciation for the people in it.

“My favorite part of my internship is the relationships I’ve formed within Iowa Select,” she explained. “They always tell you the people within the company are like family and take care of each other, and I have definitely seen that during my internship.”

The way Lexi has invested in the relationships on her farm has made a difference, and others on her team have noticed her hard work.

“Lexi is not afraid of a challenge and is very engaged at doing things the right way on a daily basis,” said her manager, Rick.

We’re wishing you the best during the rest of your internship, Lexi. Keep up the great work!
