These are no ordinary pigs

These are no ordinary pigs at Twister finisher near Eldora. Yesterday marked a milestone for Iowa Select Farms when site manager Wes Beenken and Director of Health Services Pete Thomas welcomed the first batch of weaned pigs coming from a PRRS-negative, positively-filtered sow farm. These healthy and robust pigs were born at Sow 14, one of the first five sow farms to have positive filtration technology incorporated while also undergoing a full farm remodel.

With Sow 14, 11, 25, 4 and 2 nearing completion and Sow 1, 12, 13, 26, 3, 9, 7 and 6 in the works, all of this extra effort from the construction and production teams—not to mention the investment—is being made to produce healthy pigs by keeping swine diseases out.

Thanks to everyone who has made getting these pigs to Twister possible. And while these little weaned pigs have no idea why they’ve made headlines, any caretaker can tell you exactly why this milestone is indeed monumental. Congratulations Sow 14 and thank you to everyone who was a part of this effort. ‪#‎billionpounds‬
