Twin River Tornadoes 4-H Club Ignite the Spirit Project

posted on Wednesday, December 22, 2021

The Twin River Tornadoes 4-H Club made a huge impact on the lives of over 15 local families. This inspiring mission was accomplished with the help of the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation’s Ignite the Spirit program that’s offered alongside Operation Christmas Meal to fight food insecurity in Iowa.

The 4-H club’s project started when members challenged each other to a food pantry scavenger hunt which involved collecting items for their local food pantry at the United Church of Diagonal. Using the items they collected during their scavenger hunt in addition to collaborating with their local food pantry, the Diagonal School District and of course the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation, the students created pork loin Christmas baskets for families in need within the Diagonal community.

The Twin River Tornadoes 4-H Club is one of almost 50 student-based organizations that applied for the Ignite the Spirit program offered by Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation.
