Craig Thorne”I was proud to serve my state and country,” said Craig Thorne. “The national guard has good benefits, and I learned a lot about work ethic, forming good habits and characteristics I apply today on the farm. I’d recommend it to anyone—active or reserves—because the experience helps you build good qualities to take with you throughout the rest of your life.”

After high school, Craig enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard (IANG). He was part of the IANG’s 3654 Detachment 1 Chariton, working as a fuel supply specialist until he was medically discharged.

Today, Craig is a breeding/AI specialist at Last Chance sow farm near Derby, Iowa. He has been with us since 2018. He’s one of several being recognized for his service to our country through the SelectCare Excellence Award.

“I think it’s so good that Iowa Select Farms is doing this,“ said Craig. “Serving isn’t for everybody, but I think it is for people who need direction in their lives. I use it every day, which puts me in a different mindset; it makes me do my job better.”
